Animal Reiki Session

Animals benefit from Reiki too!

Reiki with animals is driven largely by the animal’s readiness and comfort. Reiki is shared with the animal, never “done to” them. Animals are very sensitive to energy and may get what they need quickly. Whether in-person or over distance animals will often let us know when they’re done, and the session is often shorter than for a human.

During an in-person session the practitioner will begin sharing Reiki without actually touching the animal but many will approach the practitioner, sometimes indicating where they want hands. The session is directed by the animal.

The most common observable reaction of an animal receiving Reiki is a deep breath and a sigh. Dogs and cats will often seem to melt. As with human recipients yawning is also common, as are stomach sounds. Dogs may lick the practitioner’s hands. Horses may lower their heads or lick their lips. If other animals are present they often approach to share the Reiki.

After a Reiki session I recommend giving the recipient time to relax and absorb, and to make sure there is ample fresh water available.
